Pisa
The traces of
its glorious past as a Maritime republic are very evident in the
city of Pisa, which preserves masterpieces that are thousands of
years old: suffice it to mention the spectacular Piazza dei Miracoli
with the Cathedral Baptistery, and Leaning Tower in the purest Pisan
Romanesque style. The historic university is also very famous. The
territory- from the Pisan Plain travelled in its final tract by the
Arno river, to the internal Era and Cecina valleys where Volterra
stands out almost by magic – is very varied. The city of Etruscan
origin is well-known, in addition to its artistic and architectural
treasures, also for the working of alabaster. The soffioni of
Larderello confer unique characteristics on the hill landscape that,
in its multiple colours, makes an impression on visitors. Several
localities, such as San Giuliano and Uliveto, have developed thanks
to the exploiting of mineral-water springs. The history and
traditions are testified to by the numerous commemorative events
that still today are celebrated there.
